At Norton Hill we believe that young people who are engaged and inspired will become motivated, enthusiastic and successful learners.
All our teachers are subject specialists. OFSTED said that “teachers have excellent specialist knowledge and communicate it in enthusiastic and engaging ways”. Excellent relationships in the classroom and high expectations help to promote high quality learning where students are motivated and want to work hard.
Students are actively involved in lessons at Norton Hill, developing the self-confidence and capacity to work independently that they will need in later life. Varied teaching approaches meet the needs of all learners, including the gifted and talented and those with special educational needs.
Challenging homework is set on a regular basis to ensure that learning in class is extended and consolidated.
Norton Hill offers a broad and imaginative curriculum which is continuously updated to cater for students’ changing needs. As well as the traditional curriculum subjects, we offer a range of vocational courses for students who prefer a practical approach to education. Our Sixth Form offers the widest range of courses in the local area and attracts a wide variety of students of different abilities.
Our specialist status as a Maths & Computing College recognises the importance of this area of the curriculum, but is also used to promote high standards in all subject areas. We have also been awarded a second specialism as a Languages College. This accolade was offered to just a few of the highest performing schools in the country.
Norton Hill is also designated as a Training School in recognition of our superb programme of staff training and development as well as the sustained high quality of teaching and learning.
