November and December are busy months in terms of exams for the year 11 students. At 9.00am on the 20th November the students are sitting a module test for science and the results from this exam count towards the final grade in the summer. In December the students are sitting mock examinations in all subject areas. It is important that the students are well prepared for these exams so that they can achieve good results.
Although the mock exams are internal exams and marked by the subject staff, they are as possible to the real exams in the summer. This gives the students vital practice in how to conduct themselves under exam conditions and experience of how to tackle the questions on exam papers.
It is important that students prepare for these exams and revise thoroughly. Half term is an ideal time for the students to get down to some good revision and for them to work through their notes and practice questions. This will help them identify areas of strength and areas which they may find difficult. These areas of difficulty can then be followed up with their teachers when they return from half term. I would recommend that students spend approximately 3 to 4 hours per day undertaking revision. This will make their preparation for the real thing next summer so much easier.
When the students take the exams they will need a basic set of equipment and I have listed this below for your information. These requirements are the same for the summer exams and are stipulated by the exam boards.
Students will need to bring to every exam:
2 black ballpoint pens (The exam boards will not allow writing in any other colour)
A rule capable of measuring at least 15cm
At least one sharp pencil
An eraser
They will need the following in Science, Maths and technology exams
A scientific calculator
I hope we can count on your support in reinforcing the important nature of these exams and the need to study hard through revision. If you have any questions about revision techniques or support for learning, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
As part of the Year 9 Science curriculum, pupils have been taking part in the annual Science Fair. Pupils have been working in small groups on a series of investigations to try to answer one interesting question of their choice. To read more click here
